Who We Are

History of the Sewer District

The Beaver Lake Clean Water Action Corporation (BLCWAC) was formed in July of 1994.  The Sewer District was formed by a petition filed under Minnesota Statues Chapter 116A in August of 1994.  As a result of the Sewer District being formed, the BLCWAC has access to County Grants and will have the ability to obtain low interest loans once a facility plan is in place.  The purpose of the Sewer District is to facilitate compliance with the Individual Sewage Treatment System Act which was signed into law on May 10, 1994.  This law includes requirements for minimum sewage treatment standards, new construction, replacement of individual sewage treatment systems, disclosure of sewage-system information to property buyers, and a mandatory licensing program for all individual sewage treat

ment professionals, including designers, site evaluators, installers, inspectors and pumpers.  Through these tighter controls, which were phased in in 1996, the legislation aims at cutting down on the contamination of surface and ground waters caused by inadequate septic systems.  Property owners are affected by the legislation, but you can still sell your property or make renovations as the county will grant variances.  When you do sell your property, you need to disclose to the buyer the status and location of the sewage treatment system on your property.
